Two of Australia’s most successful true crime podcasts join forces for the first time
Two of Australia’s most successful true crime podcasts – Casefile True Crime and One Minute Remaining – have joined forces for the first time in a bold new Casefile Presents series, Suing Diddy.
Released on 19 September, Suing Diddy is a seven-part investigative series that follows journalist and One Minute Remaining creator Jack Laurence as he unravels the bizarre, unsettling, and at times unbelievable story of Derrick Lee Cardello Smith – a Michigan inmate who made international headlines after suing Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs for $100 million and winning.
What begins as a story of legal revenge quickly turns into something much darker, as Jack navigates Derrick’s claims of abuse, corruption, and murder-for-hire — backed by legal documents, affidavits, witness statements, police reports, and news articles. But the more Jack learns, the more uncertain he becomes. Has he uncovered a shocking miscarriage of justice? Or is he being taken in by one of the most elaborate scams the U.S. legal system has ever seen?
Jack says:
“I’d been holding onto this case for a while, unsure of what to do with it. It was the most unbelievable story I’d ever come across, and I knew it deserved more attention than I could give it on my own. Then I met ‘Casey’, the creator and host of Casefile, and that was my lightbulb moment.
From the time I started making true crime podcasts, I've wanted to create something with the Casefile team. Their success, both in Australia and around the world, is something I’ve always admired. So I pitched ‘Casey' the idea that would eventually become Suing Diddy.
Working with ‘Casey’, Mike, and the rest of the team has been a true career highlight. It’s been an incredible experience, and now I can’t wait for everyone to finally hear the story.”
The collaboration between the two true crime powerhouses is a natural fit. Since its launch in 2016, Casefile has grown into a multi award-winning global phenomenon, amassing more than 800 million listens worldwide. The podcast expanded into its own network with the addition of Casefile Presents in 2019, a platform to grow audiences for existing podcasts alongside launching new projects and voices.
Created by journalist and former national radio host Jack Laurence, One Minute Remaining has become an award-winning true crime podcast with more than 8 million total downloads. The show shot to the top of the Australian podcast charts within three months of its release in 2022 and has a passionate fan community known as the ‘OMR Jury.’
The anonymous host and creator of Casefile says:
“Collaborating on a new series with high quality partners like Jack, creator of One Minute Remaining, is always rewarding, and this process has been no different. I’m very proud of the work Jack and the Casefile team have done on the Suing Diddy series, and I look forward to it being heard around the world. It truly is an extraordinary story with remarkable twists and turns.”
Acast will host, distribute and monetise Suing Diddy across all platforms. All seven episodes are available wherever you get your podcasts.
