Agora Presents: The State pt. III - Legitimacy

With the rise of Trump, the Brexit, and the better than expected electoral showing of extremist political elements around the world and across the political spectrum, it is clear that there is much discontent within the modern political arena. These events have begun to call into question the very legitimacy of our democratic institutions and governments. Today we are going to address the issue of legitimacy squarely from a political science and philosophy perspective. Within the westphalian state system, What is legitimacy and how is it procured? What happens when it is lost? How does this discussion relate to modern events?
